The Barasingha or the Swamp Deer (Rucervus duvaucelii) was once spread widely across the plains of India, but is now found only in very few locations, Kaziranga being one of them. Like with most deer species, only the males carry the twelve-tined antlers and females are antler-less.

The Indian Roller (Coracias benghalensis) prefers the grassland habitat with plentiful insects on the menu. The affinis variety of the roller found in Northeast India is darker as compared to the nominate variety found in peninsular India.
